About
I am astounded you clicked the about me link, but since you did, I have to make it worth your while, right?
So who am I, really? Well, I’m a human being, and a software developer (really, they make those) hailing from the mighty United Kingdom. Since as long as I can remember I have been fascinated with all things computer, and since 16ish, with all things programming.
It all started when I learnt the industry’s standard ‘language to learn’: Pascal, back in college. Those were the days. Pascal teaches you one thing – and that is if you want to get serious you need to learn a little more. So I did just that.
Java, C++, C# (still a personal favourite), PHP, ASP, you name it – I went through them all to some degree – but eventually landed with ActionScript and Flash – back when it was in ActionScript 2.0 FP7 version. I know it doesn’t seem like a long time ago, but the advancements since then make it seem so. The language and platform are just so elegant now. The introduction of AS3 with its beautiful support for OOP design was mind blowing, it took the whole concept of being a Flash programmer to another level; let’s be honest, before AS3 there was no such thing as a ‘Flash programmer’.
Then Flex hit the shelves. When I say shelves I mean the open source kind. The kind of shelves I like, the kind of shelves that say here, take this awesome idea, and don’t pay for it.
Flex is without a doubt the best thing that has happened on the Flash platform full stop. (period, for you Americans).
Anyway, I have this habit to side track – so where was I…oh yes… I realised Pascal didn’t have it all, studied a bunch, discovered Flash, loved it’s ability to quickly realise visual applications and stuck with it (with difficulty mind you, AS2 wasn’t so beautiful), until AS3 came along, which took its capabilities to another level, and then Flex, which just confirmed that this platform really can be a serious programmer’s platform.
Meanwhile I was in the middle of studying for my Bachelor’s degree in Computer Applications which I completed back in 2007. Since then have been working with Flash, Flex and ActionScript on a professional capacity with a lot of respectable companies and people.
I then decided to make a blog – but never got around to it.
I repeated this thought a few times until I finally did get around to it, and here I am.
So please, enjoy the stuff you read here. Yes I am sometimes very blunt, and very quick to make fun, but that’s with a purpose. Life is short, and everything we have is borrowed.
